I’m always amazed at the creativity you see on the streets of London. Yesterday I spent the afternoon wandering through Portobello Market in west London, perhaps the most vibrant and colourful corner of the capital. Browsing among the stalls, I came across a selection of ashtrays and clocks made out of recycled beer and spirit bottles. I got talking to Ilyas, the owner of the stall, and he told me he made them by recycling bottles in his own kiln. He began the business two years ago, having spotted the idea from someone else in New York. They are so original and colourful. My wife was equally impressed, and, knowing my liking for all things Spanish, bought a Estrella Galicia ashtray, which now sits on the table in our garden.
